More map reuse, via ps-imadethis, who decoupaged maps onto a tray, an old dinner plate, and the bottom of a leftover plastic food container.

How-to:

Cut your maps in circles, long strips, or simply cover the entire surface. Be sure to cut slits on the paper so it can easily bend around the curved edges, keeping lines flush against surface. Once the paper is in place, then grab your paint brush and go to work! I suggest 2-3 coats for the [Mod Podge]. Put on evenly, and wait until each layer is dry until slapping on another coat.

Friend of Unconsumption Will Holman, whose furniture and other repurposing projects we’ve highlighted several times (grouped here), used scrap wood to refresh a pair of damaged 35-year-old Steelcase credenzas.

For a project like this, Will says a variety of reclaimed wood, such as pallet wood, or old flooring or molding, could be used.

We all have little phrases and quotes that help us through the day - for me it’s the quote ‘Do the thing you think you cannot do’ by Eleanor Roosevelt. At the moment it’s stuck to my door with a little piece of paper, but I would love to have it on a canvas or pillow like this. There’s so many different songs and styles you could do too - great for a kids room with nursery rhymes or a gift to a friend with a quote that means something to the both of you!
